PUBLIC INVITED TO COMMENT ON DRAFT CLIMATE ACTION PLAN

Posted on January 12, 2018 in ,

PASADENA, Calif.—The public is invited to attend two meetings later this month and to provide verbal or written comments on the City’s newly released draft Climate Action Plan (CAP) that was created to help Pasadena reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

The meetings include:

The draft CAP was released by the City’s Planning and Community Development Department on December 28, 2017 and is online at https://ww5.cityofpasadena.net/planning/planning-division/community-planning/pasadena-climate-action-plan/.  Residents or business owners who need more information or who wish to submit written comments by February 10, 2018 can contact Anita Cerna, Senior Planner, at acerna@cityofpasadena.net or (626) 744-6767.

Pasadena is at the forefront of sustainable community efforts in the San Gabriel Valley to proactively reduce its carbon footprint and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.  During the past decade, Pasadena has pursued a variety of programs and policies that promote alternative modes of transportation, increased the energy efficiency of new buildings; banned plastic bags and polystyrene products; increased recycling through efforts such as free “eWaste” and used oil collection events; provided natural resource conservation programs and solar/renewable energy programs and policies.

The CAP’s goal, as drafted, is to reduce local GHG emissions by 59 percent in 2035 from 2009 measured levels in four major areas—energy, transportation, water and solid waste.  To accomplish that goal, the draft CAP includes five overall strategies with 27 measures and 142 actions.  The draft CAP also supports the State’s GHG reduction efforts under Executive Order (EO) S-3-05, Assembly Bill 32 and Senate Bill 32.

There is no schedule yet for when the CAP would be presented to the full City Council for consideration.
