City of Pasadena announces launch of ‘Our Pasadena’ to implement updated General Plan
Program will update all eight Specific Plans throughout the City as well as the Zoning Code
Pasadena, CA | February 28, 2018
The City of Pasadena is pleased to announce the launch of ‘Our Pasadena – Putting the Plan in Motion’. This highly anticipated program is a major step toward implementation of the City’s recently updated General Plan, which guides future growth and development for the City.
Our Pasadena continues the City’s emphasis on public involvement, engaging community members at all stages of the program.
Pasadena Mayor Terry Tornek is excited about the launch of Our Pasadena. “Everyone in the City is looking forward maintaining the public’s involvement in implementing Pasadena’s vision for the future, to ensure the ongoing vitality and unique character of Pasadena’s neighborhoods.”
Our Pasadena moves the General Plan forward with a focus on implementation—updating Pasadena’s Zoning Code and establishing neighborhood-specific design and land-use goals for all eight of the City’s Specific Plans: Central District, East Pasadena, East Colorado, Fair Oaks/Orange Grove, Lamanda Park, Lincoln Avenue, North Lake, and South Fair Oaks. The Zoning Code will be updated to establish new development standards and design guidelines that support the vision, goals, and policies set forth in the Specific Plans and the General Plan.
The program’s localized focus will provide an opportunity to address the particular challenges and goals of each district in greater detail.
“After several years working with the community to create a shared vision of Pasadena’s future, the time has come to craft detailed plans for the City’s unique districts,” said Pasadena City Manager Steve Mermell.
The program will include numerous opportunities for public participation and community input, starting with a series of educational community open houses in March. Staff from the City’s Planning and Community Development Department will be on hand at each open house to provide an introduction to Our Pasadena and to address any questions about the effort.
“We encourage residents, business owners, and community members of all ages to attend an open house in your area and learn about the exciting work of turning the community’s vision for the future into a reality,” said David Reyes, Director of Planning and Community Development.
Community Open houses will be held on the following dates and locations:
- Thursday, March 8th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Community Center
- Thursday, March 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pasadena Senior Center
- Thursday, March 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Victory Park Recreation Center
Following the open houses, the City will host workshops in each of the eight Specific Plan Areas in late spring 2018. These workshops will allow people to gain a more detailed understanding of the specific goals for each area. The spring workshop schedule and locations will be posted on the project website, www.ourpasadena.org.
