The Pasadena Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is comprised of 4 Major Sections; Crimes Against Persons, Crimes against Property, Technology/Financial Crimes, and Special Victims Unit. The major sections are augmented by 4 special Units consisting of the Special Enforcement Section (SWAT/Gang Unit/Neighborhood Action Team), Special Investigations Unit (Vice/Narcotics), Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU), and Forensics.

Crimes Against Persons
The Crimes Against Persons Section is comprised of multiple units; Homicide-Assault, Robbery, Extortion, and Special Victims Unit (SVU). SVU personnel investigate crimes of Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Elder Abuse, 290 Sex Registrant Tracking, and Sexual Assaults of minors and adults. Missing Person cases are also investigated by SVU.
Crimes Against Property
The Crimes Against Property Section is comprised of Residential Burglary, Commercial Burglary, Forgery/Fraud/Identity Theft, Auto Theft-Auto Burglary, Special Investigations (Vice/Narcotics), Arson, Fugitive Apprehension and Subpoena Control. One detective is also assigned to a multi-agency task forces combating high-level narcotic distribution (HIDTA).
This section has 9 high trained and talented police specialists, including the Administrator, who provides Forensic Services and crime scene photography. Many of specialist have achieved the certification level of court certified Latent Print Examiner, which requires 2 years of individualized training and 100,000 verified comparisons per person.
The Criminal Investigations Division also includes the following Special Units: SWAT Team, Neighborhood Action Team (Bicycle Unit), Gang Unit, Fugitive Apprehension Unit, and Vice & Narcotics.
The Traffic Section is made up of a Lieutenant, two Sergeants, thirteen motorcycle officers, a community service officer, and an office manager. It is the primary unit that monitors traffic safety in the city of Pasadena. The 16 motorcycle officers issue citations, occasional warnings, respond to accidents, and handle our traffic safety programs. Our community services officer handles traffic collisions and is responsible for removing abandoned cars off the street.
